The 16th edition of the exciting Biking Blitz Series kicks off in February 2025 with events taking place in Wicklow, Limerick, Galway, Dublin, Sligo, Laois and Offaly! The Biking Blitz is a mass start cross country mountain bike event, aimed primarily at beginners but with something for everyone.
There are three senior categories to choose from; Novice, Ebike or Expert, plus youth categories from under 6 to under 18. Coillte built mountain bike trail centres are used exclusively for these events to ensure a fast flowing course in all weather conditions.
Sustainability
We’re working hard to reduce our environmental impact and to leave each venue cleaner than we found it. We are accredited with the Sustainable Travel Network, follow the Comhairle na Tuaithe Guidelines for Organising Outdoor Activity Events and have partnered with Trash Free MTB to help improve our sustainability by having a ‘Sustainability Champion’ on the ground at each of our events to help promote good practice and awareness of our impact on the outdoors.
Here are some quick wins to give you a flavour of what you might notice at our events:
✅ One dedicated bin station at the event with recycling, compost and refuse bins.
✅ Hemp twine rather than zip ties to secure number plates and banners.
✅ Reusable straps and zip ties where required.
✅ Working with our vendors to reduce waste and improve sustainability of their products and to encourage working with local providers.
✅ Promoting leave no trace and a trash free trails ethos to riders.
✅ No printing of competitor notes or posters etc.
We will be recording and reporting how much waste we produce at each event. This will give us a target for the following season and a base to work from. We’re delighted to be starting this journey and hope you’ll all join us in being a little big greener this year.
Did you know Coillte have 13 dedicated cycling sites around Ireland. Whether you fancy a gentle, leisurely spin with the kids, or an adrenaline-pumping challenge in the hills, you can dip into their 300 kilometre-long, off-road cycle trail network to find something that suits you.
Their family and leisure cycling trails are perfectly suited to children, who will love the idea of pedalling with the folks. Mam or Dad can bring tag-a-longs or a kiddie trailer to make it easier for the small people. These trails are completely traffic-free, so the ideal place to teach kids to cycle and grow their confidence on a bike. For the more adventurous and ambitious cyclist, we have a number of middle and longer distance trails, best used with a hybrid bike with slightly wider tyres than road bikes.
But for a full-on adrenaline rush, try out their mountain bike trails bringing you up over rugged terrain, along rocky trails and swoop down the other side. And your reward? Fresh air, exercise and incredible landscapes! The trails at Ticknock, Ballinastoe and Ballyhoura have bike hire where the experts will fit you out with the right set of wheels to get you on your way.
Explore the Bike Trails on the Coillte Recreation Map and find a place you will love to go Cycling, or indulge in some other activity. Watch out for “Cyclists Welcome” signs at our designated cycling sites. Enjoy the spin!

The Biking Blitz is promoted by Biking.ie, who provide a wide range of biking related services and are the leaders in mountain bike education and training in Ireland. Biking.ie also promote the Irish Round of the Enduro World Series, the Gravity Enduro Ireland Series and the Charity Mountain Bike Ride.
